Registered Nurse

 

3 East is a 37-bed acute level of care unit with 27 private rooms and 5 semi-private rooms located on the third floor of Kootenai Health’s east expansion.  The unit is comprised of nine bariatric lift rooms, five positive pressure rooms and three negative pressure rooms for specific isolation needs, and two rooms equipped for epilepsy monitoring.  The two epilepsy monitoring beds are embedded in the unit, creating the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), and are outfitted with special safety and monitor equipment as well as a monitoring suite.  3 East serves a population which includes the following:  Patients seventeen years of age or older, active/acute seizure and/or seizure disorder, acute/history of stroke or stroke like symptoms, oncology/chemotherapy, Circle of Life, medical/neuro and medical/surgical overflow. Staffing ratios are based on acuity. The unit culture is based on the Kootenai Health Way Handbook and supports the following: Safety-ensuring patient, guest and co-worker safety is a personal priority; Compassion-creating a positive compassionate experience for patient, guest, and co-workers; Engagement-all disciplines committed to doing their very best work and dedicated to the success of each other; Compassion Care Bundle- bedside report, proactive rounding, no pass zone, culture of clean/quiet.

3 East competencies include stoke care/National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), care of epilepsy monitoring patient (EMU), and oncology/chemotherapy administration. Additional track education may be required for certain patient populations. 

 

About the Job

  • Evaluates, plans, implements, and documents nursing care for an assigned patient population
  • Assists physician during examinations and procedures
  • Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse
  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program required
  • RN with less than 3 years’ patient-facing nursing experience at time of hire are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing within 1 year of employment, with completion within 3 years of hire
  • RN with at least 3 years’ patient-facing nursing experience at time of hire, ADN or diploma required; BSN or higher preferred
  • State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the “multistate privilege to practice” compact with Idaho prior to start date
  • BLS Required
